Welcome to another year of CPOCT Division activities which I hope you all will find educational as well as a delightful experience.

I would like to thank Jeffrey DuBois, PhD, our past-chair, and the staff at AACC and CPOCT officers for helping me find the appropriate course for our group to follow this year. Jeffrey announced the results of the 2012 AACC CPOCT Division officers on December 28, 2011 and I would like to congratulate the following:

At the 2012 AACC Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California from July 15 to 19, 2012. the CPOCT Division has planned several important events:

CPOCT Mentoring Get Together By invitation only, location to be announced.

Tuesday, July 17, 2012:
CPOCT Annual Membership Meeting and Mixer

5:30 – 8:00 pm at the JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at LA LIVE Gold Ballroom Salons 1 and 2, to be followed by the Afterglow Event from 8:00 to 11:00 pm.

Thursday, July 19, 2012:
CPOCT 10th Annual POCCs Forum: Coagulation II at the POC

7:30 – 10:00 am at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Registration fee $20.00 includes a coupon for free admission to the AACC Lab Expo.

I hope you all will mark your calendars and plan to attend these CPOCT Division activities at the Annual Meeting of the AACC. The POCC Forum is celebrating its 10th annual meeting with a focus on coagulation. Two topics will be reviewed.

The first will be an assessment of hemostasis by viscoelastic coagulation by Ann Tobin, PhD, Clinical Scientist, Technical Director, Advanced Coagulation and Core Lab, Pathology Consultants of South Broward, LLP and Memorial Healthcare System, Hollywood, FL.

Ellen Klapper, MD will present the second topic, POC coagulation in transfusion medicine. Dr. Klapper is the Medical Director, Division of Transfusion Medicine and POCT at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.

Our Division holds an international symposium every other year on critical and point-of-care testing issues. The next one is scheduled for October 4-6, 2012 in Prague, Czech Republic. Abstracts for this meeting are due May 1, 2012.
