Bob Kaplanis Named 2010 Named POCC of the Year!

In front of an overflow crowd, the CPOCT Awards Committee presented Bob Kaplanis, Technical Specialist - POCT of Laboratory Sciences of Arizona/Banner Health in Tempe, AZ, with the 2010 POCC of the Year award. This award recognizes outstanding achievements in the POCT field and consists of a glass trophy, cash and funding for travel and attendance expenses at the AACC annual meeting.

Bob began working for Samaritan Health System in 1978 on weekends while attending college. He has worked in a variety of positions within his organization including Generalist, Chemistry, Phlebotomy Supervisor, POCT Coordinator and currently Technical Specialist – POCT. In his current position he oversees the POCT program at the company’s Arizona hospitals and serves as a consultant to those outside the state.

Through a series of mergers and acquisitions the company has grown to 10 hospitals in Arizona and manages one other. They are now known as Banner Health and also have facilities in Alaska, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada and Wyoming. The laboratories at the Arizona hospitals are managed by a division of Banner Health called Laboratory Sciences of Arizona, for which Bob works. Bob, is also president of the Arizona POCC Network.
