The 8th annual Point-of-Care (POC) Forum at the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC) in Anaheim was a great success, and as Brad Karon, chair of the CPOCT Division, put it, is always a signature event at the for the division.

The Forum started with networking with colleagues across the globe and a hot buffet fit to delight even the most delicate pallet. Brad formally opened the forum, welcoming the audience and thanking the 22 sponsors. Ann Snyder announced each sponsor and the two presenters: Gary Yamamoto from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services spoke about Point-of-Care-Testing and the CLIA survey. Ginger A. Baker, MS, MT(AAB) presented “Preparing for a New Era in Health Care; The Integrated Electronic Health Record System”.  The Power Point slides for both presentations may be found on www.pointofcare.net.

The audience’s professional mix was 35% masters, 35% Bachelors, 25% PhD and 5% MDs from hospitals, private physician offices and industry. All were attentive as they wrote notes.  A lively Q & A session followed and some participants lingered to have one-on-one discussions with the presenters. It was a truly educational event for all who attended.
The POC Forum is an educational event of nominal cost to participants as it is funded by generous sponsors. The event usually occurs the last day of the AACC meeting.  The 2010 planning committee, shown below, found planning for the forum fun, satisfying and educational and has agreed to remain members.
