Ellis Jacobs, Ph.D. is a Research Associate Professor of Pathology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Director of Stat Laboratories & Point of Care Testing (POCT) at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of South Carolina and completed postdoctoral training in Clinical Chemistry & Toxicology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Jacobs is a Diplomat of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. He has extensive experience with POCT, laboratory consolidation and automation, computerization and automatic result reporting, and planning and performance of clinical trials for various main laboratory and POCT systems. Dr. Jacobs has been an invited lecturer at over twenty international, national and local symposia and meetings.
Dr. Jacobs is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science(AAAS), American Association for Clinical Chemistry(AACC), Association of Clinical Scientists(ACS), Clinical Ligand Assay Society(CLAS), International Federation of Clinical Chemistry(IFCC), National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB) and the New York Academy of Sciences(NYAS). He is past chairman of the New York Metro Chapter of the AACC, was treasurer of both the NY Metro and Pittsburgh chapters, and was a member of the AACC National Meeting Task Force. Dr. Jacobs currently serves on the AACC Clinical Chemistry Forum Committee and is secretary of the AACC Alliance of Northeast Sections. Dr. Jacobs is past secretary of the AACC Point-of-Care Testing Division (POCTD) and is presently the Chair-elect of the POCTD.
Dr. Jacobs has served the CLAS in a variety of roles: NY Metro Chapter President, National By-laws Committee Chairman, National Government Affairs Committee Chairman, General Chairman 1989 National Meeting, Publicity Chairman 1988 National Meeting, Abstracts Chairman 1991 National Meeting, and Special Topics Chairman 1993 & 1995 National Meeting. Dr. Jacobs served as a member and Chairperson of the NYC Department of Health Advisory Committee for Clinical Chemistry, Toxicology and Endocrinology. He currently is an advisor to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) subcommittees on Quality Control, on Point-of-Care testing, and Quality Management for Unit Use Testing and is an inspector for the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation program. |
