Washington, DC, July 12, 2007 —Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Correspondent at CNN, will address the subject of Medicine and the Media on July 16 at 1:30 p.m. during the 2007 Annual Meeting of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) being held at the San Diego Convention Center. A press conference and question and answer session will follow Dr. Gupta's speech.
Dr. Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon and assistant professor of neurosurgery, and is an important part of CNN's medical coverage. Dr. Gupta also writes a column for Time magazine as well as contributing news stories to CNN.com. In his speech, Dr. Gupta will address the media's role in the public health arena, and what that role should be. He will consider how the media conveys potentially alarming information to the public, drawing on his own work, including his reports on the anthrax scares following 9/11. The Annual Meeting of AACC attracts 20,000 physicians, scientists and others interested in laboratory science and medicine.
