Washington DC, February 8, 2008 - Larry A. Broussard, Ph.D., DABCC, FACB, Professor in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans, assumed the presidency of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) on January 1, 2008. Dr. Broussard, son of the late Adam and Betty Broussard, graduated from Lake Arthur High School in 1966.
Dr. Broussard has been a member of the LSUHSC faculty since 1992 and has served on numerous departmental, school, and campus committees including service as President of the School of Allied Health Professions Faculty Assembly. He has received the Allen Copping Award for Excellence in Teaching (2005), the Teaching Excellence Award for the LSUHSC School of Allied Health Professions (2002) and the AACC Outstanding Contributions in Education Award (2004).
In addition to his more than 30 years of service in AACC, Dr. Broussard has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB), the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC), and the National Registry of Certified Chemists (NRCC) and as President of NRCC. He is board-certified in clinical chemistry (NRCC and ABCC) and toxicology (ABCC).
During his 12 months’ presidency, Dr. Broussard will represent AACC in meetings with other national clinical chemistry associations worldwide as well as presiding over the largest meeting of clinical chemists in the world when AACC hosts its 2008 Annual Meeting in Washington DC in July.
