Optimizing Platelet Assessment in Patients Receiving Antiplatelet Therapy

This program was originally presented as an AACC audioconference on April 2, 2009, and was supported by Accumetrics, Inc. The course has been approved for both CME and ACCENT continuing education credits (more information is available by clicking the appropriate links on the right-hand side of this page). AACC and Accumetrics invite you to share this program with your institution’s clinical staff; they’ll be glad you did!

The Program

Assessment of platelet response to antiplatelet therapies is increasingly being utilized in patients undergoing stent procedures (PCIs) and cardiac surgery. Approximately one third of all patients do not respond as expected to antiplatelet therapies (e.g. aspirin, Plavix, etc.). Testing can help physicians optimize the effectiveness of antiplatelet therapies, and guide treatment decisions in patients who may be at risk of life-threatening ischemic events or bleeding complications. Find out why this type of testing is moving into the realm of individualized medicine.
