POC Program

POINT-OF-CARE SPECIALIST CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

COURSE INFORMATION

All laboratory testing, including point-of-care, comes under the scrutiny of regulatory agencies at state and national levels.  This course is designed to familiarize the participant with the regulations specifically targeted toward point-of-care testing at a national level. It explains the difference between regulations and guidelines and compares the requirements of the primary agencies in the United States today.

  • The course is open September 1, 2009–August 31, 2010
  • Enrollment is open June 1, 2009–May 31, 2009

COURSE DETAILS

This course covers the following topics:

  • Agencies involved in regulations, accreditation,
  • Standards, and guidelines
  • Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA)
  • Accrediting agencies
  • Proficiency testing
  • Inspection preparation

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The learner will be able to:

  • Explain the differences among regulations, accreditation, standards, and guidelines
  • Describe the similarities and differences among the different accrediting bodies
  • Summarize the important details needed for an effective, compliant, point-of-care program
  • Identify resources for further investigation
