Alan H.B. Wu, PhD, received his BS degrees in Chemistry and Biology at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, and a PhD degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Dr. Wu received his postdoctoral training at Hartford Hospital in Clinical Chemistry. He later became Assistant and then Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School. He served as Director of Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology at Hermann Hospital, in Houston. Dr. Wu returned to Hartford Hospital in 1992 to become Director of Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology Laboratories, and Professor of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, CT. In 2004, he accepted his current position at San Francisco General Hospital. Dr. Wu’s research interest is in the area of Cardiac Markers. He is a member of the AACC Standardization Subcommittees for CK-MB and Cardiac Troponin I, and the IFCC Committee on the Standardization of Markers of Cardiac Damage. He has co-authored numerous papers including the monograph on the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry Standards of Laboratory Practice “Recommendations for Use of Cardiac Markers in Coronary Artery Disease.”
