The U.S. medical community is now suffering a significant shortfall in the supply of properly prepared clinical laboratory professionals, just when the diagnostic needs of our nation are on the rise. Growing personnel requirements are being reported by facilities that handle potentially dangerous biological agents, research and clinical labs that perform molecular diagnostics, and laboratories involved in biotechnology. Twenty-one groups—including every leading clinical laboratory professional organization—and four federal agencies have now come together to assess this and related problems and pull together a comprehensive plan to attack the personnel shortfall. This session of Expert Access Live Online will focus on their consultative process and the emerging Strategic Plan that has been developed.
