Dr. Nichols is Medical Director, Clinical Chemistry for the Baystate Health System in Springfield, MA. Jim received his B.A. in General Biology/Premedicine from Revelle College, University of California at San Diego. He went on to complete a Masters and Doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Nichols postdoctoral training in Clinical Chemistry was conducted at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He is board certified in Clinical Chemistry and Toxicological Chemistry by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Nichols spent several years at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions as Associate Director of the Clinical Chemistry Division, Director of Point-of-Care Testing and Associate Professor of Pathology.
Dr. Nichols has been a member of the AACC since 1988 and has been active at both the local and national level. Jim has been a Legislative Liaison and twice Chair of the Capital Section. At the national level, he has served as Chair of the TDM/Tox LIP continuing education program, member of the Nominating and Distance Learning Committees. Dr. Nichols has served as Chair and was a founding member of the Point-of-Care Testing Division. He has also served on the editorial board of the TDM and Clinical Toxicology Division Newsletter and nominating committee of the Critical Care Testing Division. He is currently on the Annual Meeting Organizing Committee for Orlando (2002), the Board of Directors of the NACB and ABCC, Chair of the Provider Review Committee and Board of Directors of the Connectivity Industry Consortium, and is a Member of the NCCLS Subcommittee on POC Connectivity. He is also an active member of ACLPS, ASCP, ACS, CLMA, IATDMCT, and IFCC.
