From Data Management to Information Management: Implementing Point of Care Connectivity

June 4, 2002

Chris Fetters

Implementing data management for point of care offers opportunities for key gains. Using these features and benefits to full advantage will results in a previously unattainable ability to reduce medical errors, boost operator compliance, garner revenue from testing, track wasted supplies, and much more.

This presentation will discuss how to create a plan for purchasing a point of care computer system, but more importantly, how to decide if new instrumentation will fit into your three and five year "Connectivity Plan." Finally, we will briefly review the work of the CIC. An update will be given as well as practical advice as you plan to purchase systems that are "CIC-compliant." The CIC specifications can be found at NCCLS under the order code: POCT1-A.
