Gregory A. Nuttall, MD
Dr. Nuttall attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he obtained his B.A. degree in Chemistry & Biology in 1982. Dr. Nuttall obtained his M.D. degree at the Mayo Medical School in 1986. Upon receiving his M.D. degree, he completed his residency in 1990 in Anesthesiology with one year of fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and two months of pediatric anesthesia at the Washington D.C. Children’s Hospital. From 1990-1993, Dr. Nuttall served as a staff anesthesiologist for the United States Air Force in Anchorage, Alaska, and reached the rank of Major. He came back to the Mayo Foundation as a Senior Associate Consultant and Instructor in Anesthesiology in 1993. He was promoted to Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in 1995 and Consultant of Anesthesiology in 1996. In 2000 he was then promoted to Associate Professor of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Nuttall has a subspecialty interest in coagulation therapy and cardiovascular surgery.
Paula J. Santrach, MD
Paula J. Santrach, MD received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Her post-graduate training included a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a fellowship in Transfusion Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. She is certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine by the American Board of Pathology. She is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Association of Blood Banks, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, and the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry.
Dr. Santrach manages the delivery of phlebotomy services, point of care testing, and stat laboratory services at Mayo Rochester. Her interests in this area are bedside coagulation testing, the diagnosis of cardiac injury and point-of-care delivery options. Within the Division of Transfusion Medicine, she is the Director of Donor Services and the Director of the Intraoperative Autotransfusion Team. Her interests include the use of autologous blood to minimize transfusion risks, blood conservation, and transfusion strategies in cardiac surgery.
