POINT-OF-CARE SPECIALIST CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

COURSE INFORMATION

Today’s POCT market offers a wide assortment of methods and technologies for performing tests at the point of care.  To ensure appropriate patient care, it is critical that instruments are thoroughly reviewed prior to introducing them into the clinical setting.  This course describes classes of POC instruments and outlines criteria for instrument selection and validation.

  • The course is open September 1, 2009–August 31, 2010
  • Enrollment is open June 1, 2009–May 31, 2010

  • Classes of POC instrumentation
  • Instrument selection principles
  • Components of validation
  • Evaluation and validation of qualitative tests
  • Statistical principles

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The learner will be able to:

  • Identify the basic types of available POC methodology
  • Explain how to select appropriate POC tests for the institution
  • Explain how to verify the reliability of an instrument and the procedures needed to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify what data must be analyzed before implementing a new instrument system.
