1980 AACC Lectureship Award
Dr. Zak presented the 1980 annual lecutureship at the annual meeting in Boston.
1974 Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Chemistry
Bennie Zak will receive the 1974 the AACC Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Chemistry, sponsored by the Ames Co., at the 26th National Meeting of AACC. This will be the 23rd year that this award has been made.
Dr. Zak, a native of Detroit, received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University. His interest in analytical biochemistry was stimulated during his graduate studies under the late Professor A. J. Boyle. Since receiving his doctoral degree in 1952, he has served as Clinical Chemist for Detroit General Hospital. He is presently Professor of Pathology at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
His many publications demonstrate his deep and active interest in analytical methods applied to clinical chemistry, particularly in protein-bound iodine, cholesterol, and trace metals. He also made useful contributions to agar gel electrophoresis.
Dr. Zak is a longstanding member of AACC (1954) and has served on the Board of Editors of Clinical Chemistry. He has been one of the guiding lights and a past chairman of the Michigan Section. He is a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon, Sigma Xi, the American Chemical Society, the Detroit Physiological Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, and Alpha Omega Alpha.
