October Mentor of the Month: Nader Rifai, PhD
	Nader Rifai, PhD, is SYCL's October Mentor of the Month. Dr. Rifai, Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Chemistry, is a Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School, the Louis Joseph Gay-Lussac Chair in Laboratory Medicine and the Director of Clinical Chemistry at Children's Hospital in Boston.

The New Glycohemoglobin Standard
	Based on the long-awaited final results of the Average Daily A1c-Derived Glucose (ADAG) study, ADA is recommending that labs report estimated average glucose in addition to HbA1c. The aim is to help clinicians more easily explain glucose levels, while not sacrificing accuracy.

American researchers say using a fan in a baby's bedroom while they are asleep lessens the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Cancer experts say drinking red wine may decrease the risk of lung cancer in men who smoke, because of its antioxidant properties.
