US-based members belong to  Local Sections that provide educational and networking opportunities.  In addition, sections do such things as speak for the field to state and local government, represent the views of the profession to local media, participate in science fairs, and collaborate with other laboratory societies in planning cooperative programs.  Participation in local section activities is one of the primary paths to association leadership and is an excellent way for interested members to get active in their association.
